Boruto Episode 197

Boruto Episode 197

Good Guy Kawaki

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 197 wasn’t the episode I thought it would be. I thought this was supposed to be one of the big in-house episodes. But, obviously, that wasn’t the case. I’d like to say it might be next week, but I have no idea now.

However, I will stand by my statement from last week in which I said that the next big fight is probably going to be Naruto vs. Delta. I’ll get into that more later on in this review. For now, just remember that I wasn’t wrong about everything (yet).

Anyway, as I like to point out every week, Kawaki is, in fact, repairing Himawari’s original vase that he shattered. I thought we were simply going to see it fixed at some point, but that’s not what’s happening. Instead, Kawaki’s progress with fixing the vase seems to be mimicking his own personal progress throughout the arc.

I quite like how the vase is being used within this arc. It has multiple roles it fulfills with regard to Kawaki. As I mentioned, the status of the vase mimics Kawaki’s status. When he started living with the Uzumaki family, they were both broken, but now they’re being repaired.

Also, Kawaki has been referred to as a vessel by Jigen and also told that he’s hollow. Do you know what else is a hollow vessel? A vase. But that doesn’t mean a vase is worthless. You can put flowers in it — and I think this is a lesson Kawaki will learn about himself eventually.

Just because Kawaki is empty right now doesn’t mean he always has to be. He just needs to find a purpose.

Koji’s Still Doing his own Thing

Last week, another one of my predictions was that Koji and Delta were going to “work together” to retrieve Kawaki. I didn’t think that they were actually going to work together, though. Rather, I figured that Koji would probably be forced to make a move due to Delta’s actions.

For example, if Delta kidnapped Kawaki, then Koji would jump into action and fight Naruto for a bit so that Delta could escape. That doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen, but the other option may. This option involves Koji kidnapping Kawaki while Delta is distracting Naruto.

While the second option seems much more likely considering that Delta appeared before Naruto, there’s actually a secret, third option. This option involves Koji watching Delta get stomped on by Naruto and not intervening at all.

Why would Koji just sit back and not get involved? Because, even now, he seems more interested in observing Kawaki than actually retrieving him. From what I understand, Koji wants to see how the Karma of both Kawaki and Boruto influence each other.

Also, as Code mentioned to Amado in this episode, Jigen has apparently stated that Kawaki’s disappearance doesn’t really matter because he can’t escape anyway. To me, this implies that Jigen can just use his Karma connection to Kawaki to call him back to base.

If this is indeed the case, then Koji may be aware of this as well. That would explain why he’s simply observing Kawaki rather than actively trying to retrieve him. And, as far as I’m aware, he hasn’t reported back about Boruto’s Karma yet.

It could very well be that Koji is going to swoop in and capture Boruto once Kawaki is called back by Jigen. After all, I’m sure Jigen would be interested in another Karma user.

Delta Enters the Battlefield

With the exception of maybe Amado and Deepa, we’ve known that all of the Inners have scientific ninja tool bodies. I’m not sure if Amado does since he’s the one who performs maintenance on the others. And while it was never mentioned that Deepa did, he probably did.

Victor had extra arms attached to his body, Koji seems to be a homunculus, Boro has cyborg ears or something, Code has a piece of scrap metal bolted to his head, and Jigen has been stated to undergo maintenance.

But, if you had asked me whose body was “the most bionic,” I would have said Delta’s. Until now, I assumed that the triangular device on her back was some kind of power supply; either powering her body or granting her extra power in the form of physical strength.

We now know that the device on Delta’s back is actually a drone with three cameras on its corners that are connected to her eyes. So, this also explains why her eyes look unique. She doesn’t have a dōjutsu; she just has bionic eyes.

But that’s not all. Delta also has jet-propulsion feet. This means that while I was wrong about what the device on her back was, I seem to have been right about her body being the one with the most scientific ninja tools implanted in it.

Now, you might be inclined to say that Delta is just a robot at this point. However, that’s not the case. She still has chakra flowing through her that can be detected by the Hidden Leaf’s barrier. And I’d say she’s not a puppet master either because her drone didn’t utilize chakra.

Delta’s just a girl with a lot of gadgets built into her body.

Conclusion

What do you think of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 197? Were you expecting to get a fight between Delta and Naruto this week? Do you think Koji has the Kawaki situation under control? And what other gadgets do you think are hidden in Delta’s body? Let me know in the comments.
